Wood River Fire & Rescue Overview
The Wood River Fire Protection District, which does business as Wood River Fire and Rescue (WRFR), is located in south central Idaho. In 1974 the Fire Protection District was established as a political subdivision of the State of Idaho, governed by a Board of Fire Commissioners. The Fire Protection District encompasses approximately 150 square miles for fire protection and 1,500 square miles for emergency medical services (EMS). The primary focus of the Fire Protection District delivery system is public safety & education, fire prevention, fire suppression, emergency medical services, and technical rescue. Fire and medical services are provided to a fluctuating population of approximately 19,000. The operating budget of the Fire Protection District is $2,207,240 for the 2021 fiscal year.
The Fire Protection District employs a full time fire chief, office manager, three captains, four lieutenants, engineers, and firefighters. WRFR is known as a combination fire department, which consists of both career and volunteer firefighters. In total WRFR employs 12 full time members, 3 temporary full time members, and 28 paid-on call first responders. All of WRFR’s full time line personnel are Idaho Licensed Paramedics, Advanced EMTs or Basic EMTs. WRFR provides fire protection and Paramedic level emergency medical response from three facilities located in Hailey, ID and Bellevue, ID. Major fire and medical equipment includes one ladder truck, two engines, two engine/tenders, one brush engine, one heavy rescue, and three ambulances.
Wood River Fire Protection District’s fire protection insurance rating is a class four (4) for structures within five miles of a fire station and an approved water supply of 30,000 gallons or greater. |
